friendship?
Some people don't want you to achieve your goals, to grow as an intelligent and insightful person. Believe it or not, even those who give you big, wide grins want you held back. It can be hard to tell, however, which one of your friends hate to see you succeed, and when you finally do, you lie to yourself that they really do want the best for you; it hurts when discovering someone who you've spoke so highly of isn't who you thought they were. As Fitzgerald puts it, it can be “invariably saddening to look through new eyes at things upon which you have expended your own powers of adjustment.” In other words, it's disappointing when your judgement about something turns out to be wrong when you look at it from a different perspective. Whether that be a friendship, relationship, or even a career pathway, there are different sides to everything. But in order to reach your full potential, it's important to cut ties off with those who hold you down and befriend those who genuinely support you.
To be successful is to rid negative energy from your life, even if that calls for trimming the fat in your friend groups, or eliminating the inessential factors in your life. It can be difficult to scrap someone completely if they've been in your life for a while, but I promise you that you will be okay in the long run. A friendship isn't one-sided and requires a balance of effort put into it. And if that balance gets thrown off, you gotta throw the whole friend away.

The picture!! Love your post! It really relates to our relationship with peers in high school. I agree with the fact that to be successful, letting go of those who hold you back is important, even though at times this is very difficult. Your last sentence is very true! Very insightful!
ReplyDeleteHey Alicia! Your post is very true and highlights something very important to us. Although it is difficult to let go of toxic people, like you said it must be done. The picture is a hilarious wrap-up!
